Part of my Poetry Challenge. A monody is a poem lamenting the death of another.
Violetta
An angel, floating, flying free
Above the chaos far below
Flittering, dancing happily
Love is not a thing she knows
But here, she learns, she gives her heart
So tender, unbroken, so pure
Soon punished for her cherished gift
With heartbreak none can cure
Alone and dying, her final day
Forgiveness her last desire
Truth is revealed in her last breath
And in his arms, she can retire
A senseless death, this tragedy
To lose an angel so soon, so young
And here, she takes her final breath
Her love for him still on her tongue
